Vučić: Serbia will not send troops to Kosovo

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić says he has no intention of ordering the army to cross the border with Kosovo and will withdraw Serbian forces from the area.

He assessed that it is a lie that Serbia is sending troops to the border, adding that escalating the conflict would be counterproductive to Serbia's desire to become an EU member.

Vučić said that Washington's warnings are disproportionate because the number of Serbian forces in the field is decreasing.

- Last year we had 14,000 people near the administrative line, today we have 7,500 and we will reduce that to 4,000 - Vučić told the Financial Times.

He assures that Serbia does not want a conflict.

- Why would this be beneficial for Belgrade? What would be the idea? To destroy our position that we have been building for a year? To destroy it in one day?

Serbia does not want war. Serbia would not benefit from this because it would jeopardize its position in the negotiations with Pristina under the auspices of the EU - Vučić added.
