Vučić: Serbia is ready for a compromise on Kosovo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly that Serbia's priority is maintaining lasting peace in the region, Beta reports, carried by the Patria agency.

Vučić also stated that reaching a political solution for Kosovo is a priority for Serbia.

Vučić reiterated that Serbia does not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and called on UN member states not to allow Kosovo's admission to UNESCO.

He added that everything achieved in the Brussels dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina was reached through difficult compromises, adding that no one was killed due to inter-ethnic tensions in Kosovo during four years of dialogue.

In his speech before the UN General Assembly in New York, the President of Serbia said that Serbia's national priorities are a political solution for Kosovo, economic development, and integration into the European Union.

Vučić reiterated that Serbia will not recognize Kosovo's independence, but that it "does not want to talk about disrespecting Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, but about efforts to resolve a centuries-old problem" because Serbia needs to "build a future with Albanians".

According to him, Serbia is ready for "difficult compromises" in seeking acceptable solutions and that the Brussels Agreement is the result of a compromise between the two sides. 

Vučić added that it is a "step forward" that there have been no ethnically motivated killings in Kosovo in the last four years.
