Vučić addresses the public: We do not remember a greater tragedy

(Patria) - "We do not remember a greater tragedy. We must seek to examine the causes and responsibility of each of us and look for solutions so that something like this, no matter how unpredictable, does not happen to us," said the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, after the great tragedy in Belgrade.

“I did not rush, and none of us rushed to make statements. We wanted to see where the system failed and where the responsibility of each of us lies, because we cannot return children to their parents,” Vučić said at the outset, after a minor student at an elementary school in Belgrade killed nine people.

“The boy is currently in a special place and will be placed in a clinic for neuropsychiatry. His father, as the owner of the weapon, which he improperly stored and kept even though he had permits, has been arrested, and the mother has also been brought in. Because of many stories and many lies that are spreading, I am obliged to speak about the real consequences,” said the President of Serbia.

He stated that this horrific crime occurred in one of the best schools in the country.

“Police officers conducted an investigation. They were there even before the start of classes; a female police officer walked through the school and asked if everything was okay. Security is very well integrated into the school. The man who was killed exchanged messages with that boy, they hung out together, he was the good spirit of the school. He watched over and cared for the children,” he said.

He called on the media not to fabricate stories about alleged segregation in the school between rich and poor children, and that the parents of the boy who committed the massacre are respected citizens of Serbia.

“They have clean records. In his statement, the boy showed that he planned everything. He explained it in a strange way that you cannot explain to anyone who has lost their children. Some talk about peer violence and that he previously threatened with bombs. Do not make things up, he did not threaten. Today he admitted that he brought Molotov cocktails to prevent access to the school while he committed the monstrous act. Do not fabricate that there are shifts in the school with rich and poor children,” said Vučić.

He said he has verified information that the boy had previously asked his parents to transfer him from one class to another because he was being avoided for being an excellent student.

“The only thing his father said was that he constantly demanded better results from him, and that he gave poorer results when he was in love. But in the new class, they did not accept him, and he decided to commit a monstrous act. He was preparing it. I am only speaking about the facts,” concluded the President of Serbia.
