Vučić becomes regional leader

The West will turn Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić into a Balkan star and Serbia into a new regional leader. At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming one of the least developed countries in the Western Balkans, and Bosniaks - as its largest ethnic group - are rapidly losing their centuries-old identity.

In the last twenty days alone, Vučić met twice with German Chancellor Angela Merkel - currently one of the most influential women in the world – first at the end of August at the Western Balkan Summit in Vienna, and again at the beginning of September during Vučić's official visit to Berlin. 

In both Vienna and Berlin, Vučić received only praise from Merkel for how he leads Serbia, as well as announcements that this country is on the threshold of the European Union. Practically, the Serbian prime minister is transforming from a radical into a favored collaborator of the democratic West, and Serbia, which started bloody conflicts in the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia, is becoming an important strategic partner of the European Union. 

It is interesting that the West is making Vučić a regional leader even though, 20 years after the end of a conflict in which more than 200,000 people lost their lives - including thousands of children – Serbia's official policy has not apologized for crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, and even Serbia itself.

Serbia has not even recognized the genocide in Srebrenica, thereby showing that it does not respect the final verdicts of the International Court in The Hague, and the West wants Vučić despite the fact that he continues to support the policies of Milorad Dodik in the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska, who has also been assessed as the main destabilizer of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose peace is ultimately important not only for BiH but for the entire region.

While the region moves forward, Bosniak politicians are meanwhile dealing with internal party issues, personnel policy, and petty scheming. 

For this reason, for the eventual total economic, national, cultural, or any other collapse of Bosnia and Herzegovina, neither the cynicism of Vučić, nor the criminality of Dodik, nor the hypocrisy of the West should be blamed - responsibility lies solely with Bosniak politicians who have not been able or willing to impose Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosniaks as an important political-economic factor.
