Vučić told Croatia: You remove Cyrillic signs and lecture us

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, after leaving Brussels yesterday because Croatia insisted on blocking the opening of Chapter 26 for Serbia in its EU accession negotiations, held a press conference today.

"- I did not leave the dialogue, I did not stop the accession process, I did not give up the desire for everything to be aligned with the EU. I showed our table of values and proudly stood behind it. That is why I was elected, not to allow Serbia to be humiliated. I repeat to everyone in the region, Europe, and the world: you will never be able to trample or humiliate Serbia, we will not allow it. That is the table of values with which we entered the negotiations. There is no room for fascism, hatred, and discrimination on our table of values or in our hearts, but also no room for reprimands or any form of humiliation -" Vučić stated.

He said he left Brussels because he received no answer to the question of what Serbia had done wrong to prevent Chapter 26 from being opened. When asked if he would go to Brussels again, Vučić answered affirmatively.

"- They say that more countries were against it. That is not true. That Serbia has done nothing for the Croatian national minority. They say that so I don't use the word 'liars'... I cannot comment on them further. It is never difficult for me to go to Brussels and fight for my country. What happened last night was also a form of struggle. My job is to speak the truth. You saw how they bowed their heads when I spoke. I will go to Brussels a thousand times if necessary. If they want to open chapters, fine, if they don't - they don't have to. I am speaking primarily to the authorities in Zagreb. You remove Cyrillic signs and lecture us -" Vučić said.

When asked if the EU can stop Croatia's "arbitrariness," Vučić said he was also asking himself that.

"- That is a question to which I have no answer. I asked them that, I did not get an answer. I heard various theories today that someone is behind it, that is not true. I am grateful to Angela Merkel, today Joseph Biden called them. Could some others have done more, probably they could have. Serbia is most important to us, and we should move towards Europe and not lose traditional friendships -" Vučić says.

When asked about the discrimination of Serbs in Croatia and the fight to realize their rights, and the question of what Croatia wants from Serbia, Vučić said he also had no answer to that.

"- There are 50,000 Croats in Serbia, but let's not count people that way. We do not have the same voting system. To vote for minority members, you must come to Croatia with an ID card and say 'Here, I am a Serb, give me those special lists'. In Serbia, representatives of the Croatian minority have a guaranteed seat in parliament if they have 0.4 percent of the votes -" Vučić says.
