Vučić wins Serbian elections

Extraordinary parliamentary elections for the Belgrade Assembly were held in Serbia today. Polling stations closed at 8 PM, and according to the first unofficial results, SNS Aleksandar Vučić is the absolute winner.  

According to the first and unofficial preliminary data, SNS won 47.4% of the votes, SPS 13.8%, Tadić 6.4%, DS 6.2%. The first estimates from the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) indicate that Aleksandar Vučić's SNS won 50 percent of the votes, which is around 160 mandates, and SPS around 15 percent - 50 mandates. DS and NDS are above the census, between five and six percent, with DS having slightly more than NDS. According to CeSID's estimates, DSS might also cross the census.

These are the results based on 40 percent of the counted sample from the election headquarters of one of the parliamentary parties. Unofficial results for other parties are: DSS 3.8 percent, LDP 3.1, SRS 1.7, URS 3.5, Dveri 3.1, Dosta je bilo - Saša Radulović 1.7 percent.

Aleksandar Vučić addressed the election headquarters of his party, where it was emphasized that this is the most convincing victory for any party since 1990. Vučić stressed that he thanks the citizens for the enormous trust they have given to his list.

- I want to congratulate our political opponents as well and say that we are ready to extend a hand to everyone and will not belittle or humiliate anyone for such results. We are ready for dialogue with all parties, but this has confirmed our partnership with the citizens. It has shown that people love honesty, and great reforms lie ahead of us, but Serbia has a bright future, which we will not reach easily, but I am sure that Serbia will continue its European path. That we will continue good relations with all friends, both Russians, Americans, and Chinese. We will also continue the fight against corruption - said Vučić, adding that he will reduce unemployment.

He added that many people do not live to see a day like the one he is experiencing.

- I am talking about the number of votes, not mandates. This is the best result since Milošević's policy. I will be even more responsible, and some decisions will not please you, but we will do everything in the interest of the citizens - added Vučić, especially thanking his Russian and Arab friends.
