Vučić decorated former US envoy Richard Grenell

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić decorated former Washington envoy for the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, Richard Grenell.

Then-US President Donald Trump appointed the US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, as the special envoy of the US administration for the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo.

In August 2021, Gabriel Escobar, who was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the State Department, began dealing with the relations between Serbia and Kosovo.

Vučić stated in Kragujevac on February 15, in response to a journalist's question about decorating Grenell on Serbia's Statehood Day, that it was his decision.

- He was one of the few who tried to have a balanced approach, tried to listen to the Serbian side, advocated for Serbia's voice to be heard - said Vučić.

The President of Serbia traditionally decorates individuals with state orders on Statehood Day for services he deems outstanding.

When asked if the Serbian government pays Grenell for lobbying, Vučić said he thought it did not, adding that he was not in the government, RSE reports.

Normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is a prerequisite for both countries to continue their Euro-Atlantic integration. Official Belgrade still refuses to recognize the independence of its former province, which declared independence in 2008.
