Vučić: We cannot recognise Kosovo without getting something in return from the other side

BELGRADE, (Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić hinted today that he does not rule out the possibility of eventually recognising Kosovo's independence, but stated that Belgrade would have to get something in return.

"First of all, we must reach a compromise. We cannot recognise Kosovo without getting anything in return from the other side," Vučić said in an interview with the Italian news agency ANSA ahead of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte's upcoming visit to Serbia on Wednesday, as reported by the Beta agency.

Vučić did not say what Belgrade would seek in return for recognising Kosovo, reports NAP.

He said the issue of changing borders is a controversial topic, as not everyone recognises the same borders, depending on whether they have recognised Kosovo's independence or not.

"Unlike Kosovo leaders who deceive their citizens every day with unrealistic promises that Pristina will get everything and Belgrade nothing, my duty is to explain to Serbs the importance of a compromise (with Pristina) that is not a defeat but a victory. A victory for the future of Serbia," Vučić stated.
