(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the public tonight regarding the terrorist crisis that occurred today in the north of Kosovo. He said that this is one of the hardest days for their country and people.
"Since 1999, we have not had effective control in Kosovo and Metohija, and it took us a long time to investigate what happened, what happened this morning, during the afternoon and evening," he said.
He added that a group of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija set up two trucks as barricades in Banjska in the north of Kosovo early this morning.
"Then the Kosovo police arrived, attempting to remove these barricades, and a conflict ensued with the Serbs, during which a police officer was killed and another person was injured. Although we have spoken about this many times, although I have warned every day in Brussels and New York that this could happen, few listened. Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija revolted, no longer wanting to endure Kurti's terror. Since November 3rd, when Kurti dismissed the commander, they have used the Kosovo police against Serbs 62 times. In no way do I want to justify the murder of the Albanian police officer, nor is it possible to justify it. No one needed this, least of all the Serbian people at a time when everyone realized that Kurti is the problem," said Vučić.
In just an hour and 20 minutes, those few dozen Serbs were surrounded, and a brutal attack was carried out against them.
He said that KFOR gave Kurti the space to deal with them.
"Three Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija died. Two from sniper fire, from a great distance, two were seriously injured, and there is a fear that a fourth person has died. We monitored and intercepted what the Albanian police were doing. It is questionable whether one person will survive, solely because they refused to provide him with aid. We have audio recordings that confirm this," he said.
He said that the church was not involved in any way and that this group of Serbs had no connection to the Serbian army or police.
"They very quickly surrounded the Serbs to show that they were the culprits. And the only culprit is Albin Kurti, aided by parts of the international community. He provoked and provoked all the time, and I regret that some Serbs reacted to those provocations. Kurti's lifelong desire is to drag us into a war with NATO, and that is all he does all the time," said Vučić.
He rejected claims that this action was connected to Belgrade and Serbia.
"We will make decisions carefully, prepare them in detail, and present these decisions to our citizens and our people in Kosovo and Metohija. I call on the international community to form the Community of Serb Municipalities, for Serbs to be police officers in the north, as this is the only way for everyone not to be expelled from their homes and for there to be no more conflicts. We call on our people for peace and restraint and to believe in their state. Our task is to try to preserve peace, but if someone thinks that...", he interrupted his address, noting that everything will be clear in the decisions they make.
He told the international community that it was hypocritical and that they were pressuring Serbia to recognize Kosovo.
"To those who think they will exert pressure and all that they have done, we will never recognize an independent Kosovo. You can kill us all, this monstrous creation that you made through bombing and lies. Forget about formal or informal recognition of Kosovo," he said.
