Vučić: EU before 2025, the people want Prime Minister Vučić

I hope Serbia will become a member of the European Union in 2022, and I am sure it will be before 2025, stated Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić in an interview for the Swiss newspaper „Blick“, reports Tanjug, according to Patria.

Asked if Prime Minister Vučić will lead Serbia into the EU, Vučić replies that he probably will not.

- We have recovered the country for the EU. The economy is growing, there is no deficit. I am satisfied with that. I do not need power, but one day people will appreciate my work, added Vučić.

When the journalist stated that he might run in the upcoming presidential elections in Serbia, Vučić commented that former Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić would probably defeat him, and that others are more popular than him.

- But, the decision has not been made yet. After all, the people decide, he stated.

Vučić also adds that Jeremić was not his opponent.

- He asked me if I would support him. I refused him, because I do not see a clear line with him. When he is in Russia, he talks pro-Russian, when he is in Washington - pro-American. He doesn't really have a spine, assessed the Prime Minister.

Regarding whether Donald Trump's election as US President will change the situation in Serbia, Vučić said it will not, because Serbia must be able to rely on itself and adds that Serbia's goal is further economic reform to join the EU, which it will succeed in.

- Our economy is progressing. This year it is growing by 2.8 percent. Next year, perhaps by 4 percent. We practically have no deficit. Come to Belgrade - construction is underway on every corner, says the Prime Minister.

Asked why Trump's victory is being celebrated in Belgrade, the Prime Minister of Serbia said that America bombed Serbia in 1999, when the president was Bill Clinton, the husband of Hillary Clinton.

- Now Serbs want a different American policy in the Balkans. A policy that is not against Serbs, he says.

As reported by "Blic", Vučić, when asked if he fears for his life, after Serbian media reported that the CIA wants to eliminate him, says:

- I cannot imagine that the CIA is behind it.

Asked if he feels safe in Switzerland, the Serbian Prime Minister replied that he is not accompanied by any bodyguards there and that there is no reason not to feel safe in that country.
