Vllasi: Delaying dialogue with Kosovo suits Vučić, Russia longs for tensions in the Balkans

(Patria) - Politician and publicist Azem Vllasi said that Aleksandar Vučić needs the failure of talks with Albin Kurti in order to delay and avoid discussing the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

„When these tensions rise, European mediators take on the role of crisis managers. Kurti should have listened to the advice from the EU, and there is also support from the US to postpone the implementation of these license plates for a month. Kurti should listen to that in order to give a chance to the dialogue“, he said on Dan uživo on N1. 

He is convinced that there will be no escalation between Serbs and Albanians.

„From the Serbian side, someone could be planted, some Russian spy, to cause an incident, to shoot, and then lead to escalation. Kurti cannot be forced alone to abandon the agreement, while Vučić insists that Serbs continue to use Serbian license plates. All Serbs south of Mitrovica have taken Kosovo license plates and are not causing any problem“, he added.

He believes that Kurti should have postponed the implementation of the decision on license plates for ten months.

„To give a chance to this important phase of the dialogue on normalization of relations“, Vllasi said.

Vučić's problem is that he wants to delay the dialogue by abusing the Serbs from the north of Kosovo.

„No one is crazy enough to attack each other on an ethnic basis. Vučić wants to extract from this the Community of Serbian Municipalities. There is no agreement on that, but on municipalities with a Serbian majority. It is Kosovo's mistake that they signed such an agreement. Therefore, in those municipalities, there should be no place for others“, Vllasi stated.

Regarding the German-French proposal, Vllasi notes that it is backed by the US administration and that it is a European proposal.

„It is essentially a proposal leading to an agreement between two states, to respect territorial integrity and sovereignty. Serbia treats Kosovo as a fake state, and Vučić will always raise tensions in the north of Kosovo and forced them to leave public services“, Vllasi said.

Those who wanted to cooperate and talk are declared traitors to Serbia. 

Vllasi said that Russia longs for tensions in the Balkans, not only between Kosovo and Serbia, but also towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

"They would like to divert attention from the atrocities they are committing against Ukraine, and Serbia is Russia's true mainstay in this region. Russia cannot harass anyone if it does not have a foothold in Serbian politics, and unfortunately it does, because Serbia is the only one that has not joined the sanctions against Russia", Vllasi said.
