Kosovo Government Dismisses Deputy Minister of Justice Over Post Stating NATO Committed Aggression

(Patria) - The Kosovo Government has dismissed the Deputy Minister of Justice, Vesna Mikić, a member of the Srpska Lista party, after she wrote on Facebook that the NATO aggression against the FR Yugoslavia represented "deliberately planned genocide".

She stated that the attack followed "a decade of fighting against Albanian terrorists".

"On this day, exactly 20 years ago, a deliberately planned genocide was committed by the NATO alliance against a sovereign country that had been fighting against Albanian terrorism within its borders for a decade," wrote the then Deputy Minister of Justice yesterday on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the start of NATO bombing of the FRY.

According to the Kossev portal, the post was reacted to by Ganimete Musliu, a member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, who requested that the Prime Minister of Kosovo dismiss Vesna Mikić from her duties, which the Kosovo Government accepted at today's session.

Two decades since the start of NATO's attack on the FR Yugoslavia, i.e., Serbia, on March 24, 1999, were marked by a series of commemorative events on Sunday. The Day of Remembrance for the victims was marked in Niš in the presence of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, representatives of the army, the church, the diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of the BiH entity Republika Srpska.

The reason for NATO bombing of Serbia were the war crimes committed by the Serbian police and army against Albanians in Kosovo during that period, while the then President of Serbia, Slobodan Milošević, refused to stop the hostilities even after the international community requested him to do so.

NATO planes began bombing the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999, and the air strikes lasted for the next 78 days.
The NATO military intervention officially ended on June 11, 1999.

The number of victims in these NATO attacks, which is mentioned in the media today, ranges from several hundred to several thousand. During the bombing, planes targeted military positions, government facilities, and infrastructure.

Retired Air Force General Blagoje Grahovac told the Patria agency that NATO bombing is often discussed in Serbia today, but at the same time, the causes that led to this military intervention are silenced, and the causes of this intervention, according to Grahovac, certainly lie in "Milošević's schizophrenic policy".

"If there had been no NATO intervention, who knows how much longer Milošević would have ruled Serbia, and how many more wars he would have waged," said Blagovac, adding that the goal of the NATO intervention was to stop Milošević's aggressive policy.
