Iraqi forces liberated the city of Fallujah from the Islamic State, inflicting one of their heaviest defeats, and Croatian weapons contributed to this success. The VHS2 rifle (multi-purpose Croatian assault rifle), a product of HS Produkt from Karlovac, has been part of the Iraqi armed forces' arsenal for some time, writes Index, reports the Patria News Agency.
Originally produced for the modernization of the Croatian armed forces, the VHS2 seems to be performing excellently in desert conditions as well. The compact bullpup rifle is made according to NATO specifications and fires 5.56mm ammunition at a rate of approximately 850 rounds per minute.
Published footage shows members of the Iraqi armed forces during street fighting in Fallujah against members of the Islamic State. See how Croatian weapons look in Iraqi hands in the video below.
In mid-2014, Iraq became the first foreign buyer of the Croatian rifle when several tons of pistols and rifles were shipped to Iraq. HS Produkt as the manufacturer, nor the Ministry of Defense which issues export permits for weapons, have ever disclosed the exact quantities of exported weapons, but it is assumed that several thousand units of the VHS2 rifle were involved.
