Water Polo: Croatia Gold, Serbia Bronze at World Championship in Budapest

The Croatian men's water polo team won the world championship title after defeating host Hungary 8:6 (4:0, 0:2, 2:2, 2:2) in the final of the World Championship in Budapest.

Sandro Sukno scored three goals for Croatia, Javier Garcia scored two, and Marko Macan, Luka Lončar, and Maro Joković each scored one. For Hungary, Marton Vamos scored three goals, and Bela Torok, Kristian Peter Hanhercz, and Balasz Erdelyi each scored one.

HRT reports that this is the second title in history for Croatia, exactly ten years after Melbourne 2007, when they also defeated Hungary in the final.

This is the sixth consecutive medal for Croatia at the World Championships; in addition to the golds from Melbourne and Budapest, the 'barakude' also won three consecutive bronzes (Rome 2009, Shanghai 2011, Barcelona 2013), and won silver two years ago in Kazan.

Serbia won the bronze medal, defeating Greece 11:8 in the match for third place.
