
(Patria) - In Serbia, 25 police and customs officers were arrested today on suspicion of taking bribes and abuse of official position, while an intensive search is underway for two more.
They are suspected of having committed criminal acts by, in their capacity as officials, failing to perform their duties and thereby procuring benefits for other individuals. Specifically, contrary to the law, they enabled a number of persons who did not meet the conditions for crossing the border and transporting goods to do so without the prescribed border control and customs supervision procedures, and after discovering violations, they did not initiate misdemeanor proceedings.
The arrests were carried out on the order of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad.
The suspects have been ordered to be detained for up to 48 hours.
Those arrested will be questioned at the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad.
