More than half a meter of snow fell in some parts of Croatia

A cold snap with strong bora and rain has hit the entire Makarska Riviera, and the temperature on the highest Biokovo peak, Sveti Jure, dropped to minus 5 degrees Celsius, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The snow is more than half a meter high, and the Biokovo road is closed to traffic as it has been covered with snow since the Staza pass.

Snow began to fall around midnight and has not stopped. The crossing over Golo brdo on the Zagvozd - Imotski route is one of the more critical points regularly visited by the responsible road services.

Snow, carried by strong winds, has been falling in Lika in places since morning. The peaks of Velebit have turned white again, and snow is also falling in settlements below Velebit. At Zavižan, in North Velebit, snow has been falling since last night - ten centimeters of new snow have fallen. In that part of Velebit, the snow cover and occasional drifts reach up to 80 centimeters.
