331 Yugoslav lives in Croatia, perceived as a serious threat

In recent months, parallel to the presidential campaign, the fight against Yugoslavs has intensified in Croatia. One could say that a real verbal war is being waged against them, whose message and meaning are perhaps best summarized on a banner that was unfurled in front of the Ministry of Veterans by protesting veterans. It reads: "1991. against Yugoslavia, 2014. against Yugoslavs", reports the Patria News Agency.

Although Yugoslavs are understood to refer to the current government, which is accused of insufficient Croatian patriotism and a longing for the former state entity, the anti-Yugoslav front opened in Croatia is an occasion to re-examine how many Yugoslavs actually live in Croatia today.

According to the latest census, Croatia has 4,456,096 inhabitants, and of these, only 331 declared themselves as Yugoslavs. Of the 331 Yugoslavs in Croatia, 261 are male, while there are only 70 female Yugoslavs.

These 331 inhabitants of Croatia, who declare themselves as Yugoslavs, are still perceived as a serious threat across the entire social spectrum. Thus, the editor-in-chief of Glas Koncila recently commented on the Split protests on the Riva due to football, saying that the gathering was "a new step in deepening the gap between the Croatian north and south".

Minister of Public Administration Arsen Bauk also joined the political bickering that abounds in the presidential election campaign, in which Yugoslav terminology is used. He posted a provocation on his Facebook profile on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the construction of the Solin – Klis road. "Yugoslavs started it, Yugoslavs finished it," Bauk wrote and immediately faced criticism.
