(Patria) - A member of the Volunteer Firefighting Association Tovarnik, Zvonko Drmić, died on July 19 in the evening hours, during a firefighting intervention to repair the consequences of the storm that hit Vukovar-Srijem County.
"The Croatian Firefighting Association and Chief Fire Officer Slavko Tucaković express their sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased firefighter. A firefighter lives forever in the hearts of those they saved. May the Croatian soil be light upon him," announced the Croatian Firefighting Association.
The police also commented on the death of the firefighter.
"On Wednesday, July 19, around 9:30 PM, while removing fallen trees and branches from the road in Tovarnik, after a stormy weather, the 65-year-old member of DVD Tovarnik felt unwell and collapsed to the ground. Citizens who were present at the scene provided him with first aid until the arrival of the Emergency Medical Service team, which, after attempting resuscitation, declared him dead," the police stated.
"Police officers conducted an on-site investigation, and the body of the deceased was transported to the Dr. Juraj Njavro Vukovar General Hospital where an autopsy will be performed," the police added.
