Migrants clash in Belgrade

A group of migrants held a protest near the Belgrade Bus Station because they cannot cross the border into Hungary, B92 reports, citing NAP.

The protest in the center of Belgrade ended with mutual shoving and one group leaving towards the Hungarian border.

As a Tanjug reporter from the scene reports, the migrants blocked traffic by walking on the road, dissatisfied that they cannot cross the border into Hungary.

A clash occurred after one group refused to join the protest and rejected food aid they received from the Info Park.

The group of about 300 migrants then set off on foot through New Belgrade towards northern Serbia, and is currently in Zemun, followed by police.

The protest began around 8 AM in the park near the bus station, and after 9 AM, a portion of the migrants decided to walk towards the Hungarian border to protest Hungary's refusal to allow migrants free passage into its territory.

As they told Beta agency at the Info Desk at the bus station, after some time the group of migrants headed towards the border, but turned back at Nemanjina Street and returned to the park, where they attacked another group waiting for food in front of the Info Desk.

- They returned and attacked the group that was standing peacefully in the park because they didn't want to go with them. There were no injuries, but it was very tense. The police had to intervene and separate them - they said at the Info Desk, adding that activists from some NGOs had "incited" the migrants to head towards Hungary.

Due to these events, the Info Desk was temporarily closed and will reopen at 1 PM when lunch will be served to the migrants.

Currently, police are present in the park and surrounding streets, and traffic in Karađorđeva Street was temporarily stopped due to the protest.

The situation in the park near the Belgrade Bus Station is calm again, NAP reports.
