Timothy Less clarifies his analysis on the creation of Greater Serbia, Albania, and Croatia

Peace in the Balkans can only be maintained by recognizing reality, which is the desire of Serbs in Republika Srpska to create a kind of union with Serbia and stronger ties of Croats in BiH with Croatia, said Timothy Less, director of the Nova Evropa agency from Cambridge, in an interview with N1, reports Patria.

Less is also the author of a controversial article published in the American magazine Foreign Affairs, which discusses the necessity of creating a "Greater Serbia, Albania, and Croatia".

When asked if a referendum on the independence of Republika Srpska is imminent, Less replied:

"The point of what I wrote in the article is that it should be a gradual process. I do not believe that Republika Srpska is capable of being an independent state, nor do I think that most Serbs yearn for an independent state as the ultimate political goal. What they want is greater autonomy from the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and self-determination regarding their internal affairs; this is a political reality and means a kind of breakup of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In practice, Republika Srpska is not capable of surviving as an entity, but should become autonomous within a kind of union with Serbia. I assume that the medium-term goal of Republika Srpska could be to become an autonomous province within an expanded Serbia. However, people on the ground should decide on this, not me."

When asked if he doesn't think new divisions would lead to new wars in these regions, he said:

"That is my fear, and that is why I wrote this article. But there are no new divisions here. These divisions have existed since the breakup of former Yugoslavia. In the article, I assume that the pursuit of divisions actually maintains peace as the ultimate goal, which everyone should consider."
