Angela Merkel and Manfred Weber, the leading EPP candidate for President of the European Commission, said yesterday in Zagreb that nationalism is an enemy that wants to destroy Europe. Otherwise, at the rally organized by HDZ, guests were played the song by the controversial Marko Perković Thompson "Lijepa li si", reports Jutarnji list.
The rally was also attended by the president of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović, who briefly met with Merkel on the sidelines of the rally.
"Europe is a project of freedom, you know that I also lived in a dictatorship and could not travel and come to the former Yugoslavia," said Merkel.
Manfred Weber called for a response to nationalists and promised that they would not be part of his majority in the European Parliament.
