
(Patria) - Croatian Defence Minister Mario Banožić was involved in a traffic accident this morning in which one person died.
Banožić was driving a car that collided with a van, whose driver died, reports Telegram.
As confirmed by the shift manager of the Vukovar-Srijem Police Department, Fabijan Kapular, the accident occurred at 6:15 AM at the exit from Vinkovci towards Županja.
- Mario Banožić was taken to the hospital - said Kapular, who did not know details about his health condition and the severity of his injuries.
The Vukovar-Srijem Police Department issued a statement about the accident.
"This morning at 6:15 AM, a report was received about a traffic accident on state road DC-55 at the exit from Vinkovci towards Županja involving a van and a car.
The driver of the van died in the traffic accident, while the driver of the car (a state official) was taken to the Vinkovci General County Hospital due to injuries sustained.
An investigation is underway, led by the deputy of the Vukovar County State Attorney's Office.
Since 8:15 AM, that section of state road number DC-55 (Vinkovci-Županja) has been closed to traffic," the police added.
