Tensions between Serbia and Montenegro ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, increased border controls

(Patria) - The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has cancelled her participation in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on June 5 in Tivat, confirmed to RTCG Portal.

The summit will be attended by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, who has been visiting the Western Balkan countries since June 1. Today he is in Serbia, and then he goes to Montenegro.

During yesterday, tensions arose between Serbia and Montenegro. Yesterday, Montenegro turned back a plane with 87 Serbian nationals who were assessed as a security threat. After that, Serbia detained 30 Montenegrin citizens at the Belgrade airport who had landed by plane, and since this morning, long vehicle queues have been noticeable at border crossings due to tightened controls by the Serbian border police.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said after the meeting with Costa that he will attend the summit in Montenegro.
