SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Border Police of BiH clarified its initial statement regarding the closure of border crossings between BiH and the Republic of Croatia for local border traffic, which will be closed from tomorrow at 7 AM.
"We inform the public that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH received a note from the Republic of Croatia containing a proposal to close border crossings for local border traffic between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, after which they informed the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which together with the Border Police of BiH conducted necessary analyses regarding the proposal of the Republic of Croatia and determined that measures need to be taken concerning the temporary closure of border crossings for local border traffic (28 of them).
Local border crossings do not have sanitary inspectors, who are otherwise present at all international border crossings, and at local border crossings it is not possible to issue a self-isolation decision for passengers, and they are used exclusively by the local population.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, the Ministry of Security of BiH with the consent of the Border Police of BiH and in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia agreed on the following: from tomorrow, April 2, 2020, at 7 AM, border crossings for local border traffic between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be temporarily closed, including those border crossings over which, by decision of the Mixed Commission for Monitoring the Agreement between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Border Crossings, international passenger traffic was temporarily allowed.
As confirmed to Patria by the spokesperson of the Border Police of BiH, Franka Vican, the letter sent to them did not specify a deadline for how long the traffic suspension will last.
