Šušnica: Statements about Milošević's innocence in wars in BiH and Croatia are a basis for new conflicts

Claims by some Western analysts that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), by issuing a non-final verdict against Radovan Karadžić for genocide and crimes in BiH, has absolved the former President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milošević, have once again stirred up the region, writes Patria.

Reactions followed, especially after some ministers from the newly formed government of Aleksandar Vučić addressed the public on that note.

- The West is silent about the fact that The Hague has cleared Milošević of suspicion for ethnic cleansing and war crimes in BiH, but Serbia must not and will not remain silent - assessed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Serbian government, Ivica Dačić.

Banja Luka culturologist and analyst Srđan Šušnica believes that the statements of the Serbian political elite, primarily old Milošević cadres, about Milošević's innocence in the wars and crimes in BiH and Croatia are actually the final act of denying Serbia's responsibility for the war and genocide, and a new phase of the policy pursued in Serbia since 1986, and which can cause new conflicts.

- In the current context, these statements, as well as the intensive Russophilia of Serbia, are nothing more than an ideological basis for new conflicts and the unification of RS and Serbia... The time to come will not spare us from conflicts - said Šušnica.

The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina also most sharply condemns the statements of Ivica Dačić and Aleksandar Vulin, in which, as they state, the legal mechanisms of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia are selectively and ignorantly interpreted, "in order to absolve Slobodan Milošević's regime, of which they were a part, of historical guilt for nationalist war policy."

- We remind you that the policy of Milošević's regime, whose first victims were the autonomous provinces - Vojvodina and Kosovo, ended its balance with four lost wars, four million displaced persons, over 130,000 killed, and one internationally convicted crime of genocide. The terror, plunder, and repression that the citizens of Serbia endured should also be included in the tragic and shameful balance of the darkest decade in the modern history of these areas - believes Nenad Čanak from the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, writes Patria.
