After protests in Slavija Square: Clash between police and demonstrators in Belgrade, special police vehicles arrived

(Patria) - Clashes between police and demonstrators occurred in front of the Serbian Presidency building and in the Pioneer Park area in Belgrade tonight.

The clash broke out after the end of the protest in Slavija Square, which students on blockade had previously called for.

As participants of the protest were returning from Slavija, where the protest was held, they tore down the fence set up around Pioneer Park and threw a large number of pyrotechnic devices and stones at police officers.

According to reports from the scene and footage from social media, the incident occurred after groups of protest participants approached the area around the Presidency, where the police intervened.

The situation briefly escalated, and police forces formed cordons to separate the crowd and prevent further incidents.

The police were first attacked near the Serbian Presidency, and then in Kralja Milana Street near London.

Many of the protest participants are masked with scarves and t-shirts. The police have increased their forces, and special police vehicles have also arrived.

There are strong police forces around Pioneer Park, one cordon is near the City Assembly, one near the monument to Tsar Nicholas, and one near the Presidency.

For now, there is no official information about injuries or any arrests.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade announced that all those who attacked police officers securing the gathering tonight, after the end of the public assembly in Slavija, will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

"The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade strongly condemns such attacks and warns that attacks on police officers constitute a criminal offense," the statement said.
