Subašić in The Hague: We have important talks at the UN, we sued the Netherlands, and we will probably sue Serbia too

(Patria) - Today's verdict for Jovica Stanišić and Frank Simatović confirmed the participation of these Serbian officials in a joint criminal enterprise in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Munira Subašić, president of the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, was also present at the pronouncement of the verdict in The Hague.

After the verdict was delivered, sentencing Stanišić and Simatović to 15 years in prison each, Subašić expressed immense gratitude to the Hague Tribunal.

"After the verdict, I concluded that victims should live and fight for justice. There were ups and downs, but the Court in The Hague has completed its mission humanely," she stated.

She also had a special message: Differences are good, but divisions are not!

"Do not divide people into these or those. Only into criminals and good people. This verdict showed that Serbia is responsible, which we already knew. Children should be told the true story, not kept in lies! Let all victims from the Balkans help our grandchildren turn towards the future. Without truth, there is no justice; without justice, there is no reconciliation; without reconciliation, there is no trust," said Subašić, reminding of the many mothers of Srebrenica who did not live to see today's verdict.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague found the former heads of the Serbian State Security Service guilty, sentencing them to 15 years in prison each, and found them guilty of crimes in Bijeljina, Zvornik, Doboj, Trnovo, Bosanski Šamac, and Sanski Most.

Therefore, an important question arises – will the victims seek reparations, or will talks with Serbia open up after such an important verdict?

"On June 7, the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves and the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide in BiH will have a meeting with the UN Secretary-General. We will have very important talks everywhere. We will seek a fund with which victims should be satisfied. We sued the Government of the Netherlands, and we succeeded in getting a verdict. We have good lawyers, and we will probably do the same towards Serbia and towards Republika Srpska," Subašić revealed to N1.
