Serbia exceeds 100 infected, only trucks allowed into the country

BELGRADE, (Patria) - As of tomorrow at 8 AM, all border crossings for road, rail, and river traffic will be closed; only trucks will be allowed into the country, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić at a press conference.

He stated that Serbia has exceeded 100 infected individuals, with 55 of them hospitalized, and six in serious condition on ventilators.

"We expect a further rapid increase in the number of infected in the coming days and weeks. Our infectious diseases clinic is almost full, and we are moving patients to the 'Dragiša Mišović' hospital. Two individuals were released because they tested negative twice. But many, many more are coming," said Vučić.

He emphasized that hospitals in Serbia are increasingly full, and doctors are fighting heroically.

"The army and police are doing their jobs very well, and I believe we will be able to help the doctors, even though they are very tired," stated Vučić.

It is expected that three more individuals will be discharged tomorrow if they test negative for the second time.

"Why did I say that this number of 100 is important? It is because in several countries, the number started to increase geometrically from that point. It becomes much harder to control, and this has happened in all countries. An hour ago, we managed to deliver seven Swedish-made ventilators to Belgrade," said Vučić.

He asked people to respect the movement ban. He also mentioned that the period between 4 AM and 7 AM on Sundays is being set aside, but he stated that this is a measure to discourage pensioners.

In addition to border closure measures, Vučić announced a complete ban on intercity transport, but car travel will still be possible.

The President of Serbia said there will be no problems with masks and disinfectants.
