Serbia and Wales victories helped BiH in the race for World Cup qualification

The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, after the eighth round of qualifiers for the World Cup in Russia, has everything in their own hands again, writes the Patria agency.

Help for our national team in avoiding the position of the weakest second-placed team came from Serbia and Wales. Serbia and Wales celebrated victories last night, so BiH is no longer the weakest second-placed team. 

There are nine groups in the qualifiers, and only the group winners will directly qualify for Russia, while the eight best second-placed teams will go to the playoffs, and the weakest second-placed team will be eliminated entirely.

Bosnia and Herzegovina currently has the same number of points as Wales, but points and results against the last-placed team in the group, in our case against Gibraltar, are excluded.

In that case, Mehmed Baždarević's players have a better goal difference than the Welsh and, with two rounds left in the qualifiers, occupy the eighth position on the list of best second-placed teams.
