(Patria) - Slovenia has reacted to Italy's decision to tighten internal border controls with Slovenia and will introduce controls near the borders with Croatia and Hungary from Saturday.
Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar has already informed neighbouring countries about this, but the Croatian ministry declined to comment on Slovenia's moves, stating only that they are monitoring the situation. Prime Minister Plenković considers this only a temporary measure.
This follows Italy's move, which was prompted by an increased terrorist threat after recent attacks in Brussels and Paris.
Italy will introduce border controls with Slovenia on Saturday for ten days, with the possibility of extension. Yesterday, Slovenia also raised its terrorist threat assessment to a medium level.
It is not yet clear how border controls will be intensified, but the ministry's announcement that the chiefs of Slovenian and Italian police will decide on the details could indicate a "softer" form of control, reports Slovenian 24ur.
