(Patria) - The Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NEK) in Slovenia, which has been in continuous operation since the completion of its overhaul in 2022, will be preventively shut down.
The operational team discovered increased leakage from the primary system within the containment building. The leakage has no impact on employees, the public, or the environment, and is below the limit values set by the technical specifications.
In order to precisely determine the source of the leakage and the next steps for its remediation, it is necessary to shut down the plant, so the operational team will begin a controlled gradual power reduction, it was stated on the NEK website.
During the shutdown of the plant, steam may occasionally be released from the secondary – non-nuclear part of the plant, which can be heard in the immediate vicinity. Residents near the plant are asked for their understanding.
