(Patria) - Slovenia was elected today as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period from 2024 to 2025.

In addition to Slovenia, South Korea, Guyana, Sierra Leone, and Algeria were also elected today as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Slovenia will replace Albania in this position during the mentioned period.

“Today is a great day for Slovenia! I am proud of the exceptional result, which is the fruit of painstaking work. We received 153 votes in the first round. Thank you all for your support of our candidacy!”, said the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tanja Fajon.

The Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, consisting of member states, of which five are permanent and ten are non-permanent countries elected for a two-year term.
