Slovenia: Islamic Community in Velenje Awarded this Year's Mayor's Recognition

The Islamic Community in Velenje is the recipient of this year's Mayor's Recognition, due to its active involvement in social life and support for interreligious and intercultural dialogue in this Slovenian city, writes NAP.

The recognition was presented to the representatives of the Islamic Community by the Mayor of Velenje, Bojan Kontič.

The official explanation from the Municipality of Velenje states that Velenje has been a multicultural and multinational city for several years, where all religions and national communities are respected. The Islamic Community in Slovenia, specifically the Committee of the Islamic Community in Velenje, certainly contributes to this by actively participating in the social life of the city and consistently providing support for positive interreligious and intercultural dialogue.

The Committee of the Islamic Community in Velenje, as part of the Islamic Community in Slovenia, has been successfully operating since 1991. This year, the Islamic Community in Velenje is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its work and activities.

- In their work, they are open, support mutual cooperation and integration into the local environment. So far, they have carried out numerous humanitarian, social, and educational projects and contributed to the development of a special culture of life and coexistence of people with different religious beliefs in Velenje, which is the basis for mutual trust - the official explanation from the Municipality of Velenje states, NAP reports.
