SDP stands with students: It is not good for the country to divide the school in Jajce into Bosniak and Croat

The Social Democratic Party of BiH (SDP) opposes the establishment of a new secondary school in Jajce, which would be attended exclusively by Bosniak children. This party believes that this would lead to a new division in society and the disunity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria.

At a press conference of the SDP of the Central Bosnia Canton (SBK), it was stated that this party will fight with all legal methods to prevent the division of students into Bosniak and Croat in Jajce.

The Assembly of the Central Bosnia Canton will decide on the establishment of a school for Bosniak children in Jajce at its session next week.

The secondary school in Jajce currently operates according to the Croatian curriculum, even though there are almost an equal number of Bosniak and Croat children attending this school. Bosniak children are not allowed to study subjects according to the Bosniak program. This represents a violation of basic human rights. The school diplomas still bear the coat of arms of the unconstitutional Herceg Bosna, which is also a violation of BiH law.

Members of political parties in SBK representing Bosniaks, SDA and SBB, have initiated the establishment of a school for Bosniak children. They state that this will satisfy the national interests of Bosniaks in this city.

The SDP believes that establishing a school for Bosniak children will not lead to progress in society. On the contrary, the SDP states, it will lead to new national divisions in the country. This party proposes not to establish a new school in Jajce, but to introduce a national group of subjects into the existing school.

Edina Kurt, president of the SDP in Jajce, said that it is sufficient to ensure that Bosniak and Croat children study their mother tongue and history separately, while other subjects are completely the same for all nationalities. This would prevent new divisions in BiH.
The division of the school into Bosniak and Croat is also opposed by the majority of students. Today in Jajce, they organized a protest march in sign of opposition to new divisions, writes Patria.
