Croatia's SDP elects Bernardić's successor: Five candidates in the race, results tonight

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Croatia's SDP is electing a new party leadership, and there are five presidential candidates.

All members who have the right to vote in accordance with the SDP Statute will elect all party bodies according to the principle of "one member, one vote".

Results are expected after 8 PM.

If none of the candidates win more than 50 percent of the votes, the SDP will get its new president in seven days, when the two with the most votes will compete for the mandate to lead the SDP for the next four years.

Competing for Davor Bernardić's successor are parliamentary representative and mayor of Omišalj Mirela Ahmetović, parliamentary representative and SDP vice-president Peđa Grbin, Krapina-Zagorje prefect Željko Kolar, Pula SDP member Marino Percan, and president of the SDP of the Split-Dalmatia County Ranko Ostojić.

Polling stations opened at 7 AM and voting will continue until 7 PM, but at smaller polling stations, voting may start later and end earlier. After the polling stations close and the votes are processed, the Central Election Commission will announce the election results at the party headquarters on Ibler Square in Zagreb.
