At the invitation of the Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality, Ćamil Duraković, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirko Šarović, visited the town today, writes the Patria News Agency.
The topic of the meeting was compensation for flooded land that Serbia, or rather the Bajina Bašta Hydroelectric Power Plant, owes to Srebrenica. The amount is over 37 million marks.
-Minister Šarović emphasized that the state ministry he heads is with the Municipality of Srebrenica and will do everything to resolve this major issue. If they had that money in the budget, many problems faced by the people of Srebrenica in their daily lives could be solved.
Minister Šarović has already scheduled a meeting with Serbian Minister Aleksandar Antić, Duraković told NAP.
With the construction of the Bajina Bašta Hydroelectric Power Plant, a large part of the land in the Municipality of Srebrenica was flooded, and until the beginning of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, hydroelectric power plants regularly paid the debt for the flooded land. For more than two decades, not a single mark has been paid to Srebrenica.
Two-thirds of the flooded land is owned by the Municipality of Srebrenica, and one-third is owned by the Serbian municipality of Bajina Bašta, which regularly receives compensation from the Bajina Bašta Hydroelectric Power Plant.
