Šarović after meeting with Vučić: We will not live in a war atmosphere for years, we need stability

(Patria) - We took the opportunity for each of us to present their view of the situation, in general in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in light of the declaration that was the focus of attention. It was not a meeting of like-minded people.

This was stated by the President of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), Mirko Šarović, as a guest on Dnevnik 2 BN TV, after meetings in Belgrade with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Saturday.

"I personally share everything that (Vučić) said, and from my position as the president of the Serbian Democratic Party, everything is acceptable, I think everything was measured," said Šarović.

Šarović said that he and Borenović (President of PDP) were in a way the opposition and represented parties that are in opposition in Republika Srpska.

"It was an opportunity to hear our opinion, which is not always the same as the opinion of the ruling parties. There were certain things we agreed on, primarily regarding the declaration, but there are many issues on which we think differently, perhaps even regarding certain responses related to the declaration, which was evident from the subsequent statements," said Šarović.

When asked about the impression gained from listening to Dodik at the press conference that we are in some kind of pre-war state, Šarović replied:

"Well, yes, I must admit that I am somewhat surprised by that rhetoric, and Dodik said that in his name and in the name of his party, he has the right to do so, but he did not say it on behalf of all of us. I think it is necessary to emphasize that our response, in general, when it comes to the SDA declaration and the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, should be measured and responsible, and in no way inflammatory or a reaction that could deepen the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Šarović.

He believes that instead of muscles, more wisdom and intelligence should be shown.

"This is an opportunity for Republika Srpska to position itself as a party that will perhaps be recognized as Republika Srpska that advocates for peace and stability, for development in Bosnia and Herzegovina. That is something that should be heard from us, it is wiser than to mention some other rhetoric. We will not live in such an atmosphere for years, that is unacceptable, at least from the side of the Serbian Democratic Party," said Šarović.

He says that we need to have a clear view of this declaration, to say that it is unacceptable to us, that it is regressive, that it is contrary to the Constitution, but to say that there have been similar declarations before.

"One was in April from HDZ, almost identical to this SDA one, and no one attacked it, but we should have the same attitude towards it. I would say that SDA, HDZ, and SNSD were competing in declarations. This should stop for the sake of the peoples, the citizens in this country. I think that is something that, in my opinion, should be the key message. A clear stance towards a certain document, but also tones that will be serious and responsible. I think that is expected from parties, especially from parliamentary ones," said Šarović.

Regarding whether the issue of leaving the Council of Ministers of BiH was discussed, Šarović stated that there was no talk of leaving anything at today's meeting, neither the Council of Ministers nor any other positions.

"It was discussed on the sidelines. If the issue is raised at the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, we will repeat what we have said before. I think it is in the greatest interest of Republika Srpska to be in the institutions, and we would be in big trouble if we left them to members of the Croatian people. I told Dodik, 'You know what, if you think the three of us should leave the Council of Ministers, why wouldn't you, Špirić, and Radmanović do it too? Let's talk about it that way, and then we'll see if that would bring anything good for Republika Srpska.'"

Answering the question of whether the situation is clearer for the President of Serbia, given that he has heard all the actors in the events in BiH, he said that this meeting had precisely that goal.

"To exchange information, for all political parties coming from Republika Srpska to be heard. I think Vučić understands everything. Yesterday I said that the information was one-sided, and when I say that, I mean that it came from one political option. There are more of us, and it is good that the voice of everyone is heard, both the opposition and the government. We did not create any joint document or anything, it served more for a clearer picture coming from the parties from Republika Srpska."
