Reis Kavazović invited Zagreb Mufti for consultations and sent a letter to Cardinal Bozanić

Today, the Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH, Husein ef. Kavazović, invited the President of the Mesihata of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Croatia, Mufti Dr. Aziz ef. Hasanović, for consultations. The meeting was attended by a delegation of the Mesihata, which included: President of the Sabor of the Mesihata of the Islamic Community in Croatia prim. dr. sc. Ferid Latić, member of the Sabor of the Islamic Community in BiH Mirza Šabić, Deputy Mufti Mevludin ef. Arslani, and Secretary of the Mesihata Nermin Botonjić. The meeting discussed the latest statements by the President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, and the campaign being conducted by parts of the Croatian political, academic, and media public with the aim of presenting Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosniaks as a terrorist threat to the region and Europe, reports the Patria agency.

On this occasion, the Reis-ul-ulema handed Mufti Hasanović a letter he sent to the Croatian Cardinal and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, Josip Bozanić. In the letter, the Reis-ul-ulema, among other things, shared his concern and the concern of the members of the Islamic Community due to the deteriorating political relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, which involve the negative characterization of faith and religious affiliation and which harm good relations among members of the Islamic Community and the Catholic Church in BiH and Croatia. He expressed his conviction that he shares with the Cardinal a common desire to preserve good relations and prevent their more serious and lasting damage.

- I know that we, as people of faith, cannot directly influence the policies pursued by officials. However, I also know that political officials often intentionally or unintentionally neglect the fact that their statements can have negative consequences beyond the scope of their daily political activities, including interfaith relations, which are deeper and more lasting than party political relations - it is stated, among other things, in the letter of the Reis-ul-ulema.
