Rama called on KFOR to take control of northern Kosovo

(Patria) - Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama called on the international peacekeeping forces led by NATO to take control of northern Kosovo to prevent any major conflict.

- In order to prevent this conflict in any way and by any means, which today seems more likely than ever before, KFOR must take control of northern Kosovo.

This is a proposal I have made before, and at the NATO summit. Any hesitation and delay today, including the argument that they do not have enough troops, could make KFOR's intervention tomorrow much larger in terms of troops but also more difficult - Rama said.

He added that the process of normalization and building relations between Kosovo and Serbia is strategic for his country and the Albanian people.

Referring to the murder of a Kosovo police officer on September 24 and the tensions in northern Kosovo, Rama stated that Serbia, instead of investigating the criminal event, which was caused by a Serbian criminal group, not the Kosovo police, chose to honor the killed attackers and declare a day of mourning.

Let us recall that in the clashes between the Kosovo police and an armed group in Banjska, Zvečan municipality, on Sunday, police officer Afrim Bunjaku and three attackers of Serbian nationality were killed.
