Bird flu of the H5N8 strain has been confirmed on a family farm in Križnica, Virovitičko-podravska County, which killed all 15 domestic poultry, the Ministry of Agriculture announced, HRT reports.
Križnica is an isolated village on the left bank of the Drava River, where a total of 22 small farms keep poultry, which they raise for their own needs. The village is completely isolated due to the Drava River and the state border, and there is no danger of transmission and further spread of the virus, but all precautionary measures must be taken.
The Directorate for Veterinary and Food Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture immediately took all measures to isolate the settlement. A ban on the movement of people, animals, and vehicles has already been established in the infected area. Access is only possible via a suspension pedestrian bridge and a ferry across the Drava River, which is secured by the police.
On Friday, poultry will be euthanized throughout the village of Križnica. At the same time, veterinary inspectors will assess the value of the euthanized poultry on each farm in order to pay compensation to the owners.
