Is the ground being prepared for Serbia to become the owner of Railways of Srpska?

The Government of the BiH entity Republika Srpska announced that the Government will become the sole owner of “Railways of Srpska”. The company has been operating with multi-million losses for years. Layoffs have also been announced.

The Government plans for the company’s entire assets, land, tracks, and other infrastructure to become their property. Such a move would be enabled by the new Law on Railways, which was discussed in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska on Wednesday.

Experts warn that the authorities in this BiH entity do not have the right to purchase the assets of Railways of RS. The Law on the Temporary Prohibition of Disposal of State Property clearly prohibits such actions. The company’s assets are public property.

If the Government of RS becomes the owner of the assets of Railways of RS, this would give them the right to sell these assets to anyone, for example, to Railways of Serbia. In this way, Serbia would become the owner of a part of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria. (A. A.)
