Croatian singer Jasmin Stavros passed away

(Patria) - Croatian singer Jasmin Stavros died yesterday after a battle with a serious illness at the age of 68 at the Jordanovac Clinic for Lung Diseases in Zagreb.

Stavros was diagnosed with bone cancer in March this year. In early April, he was transferred from Vinogradska Hospital to KBC Rebro in Zagreb, and then to the hospital in Jordanovac, where he died.

He was born in Split in 1954 as Milo Vasić. He comes from a musical family. His father, grandfather, and brother were involved in music, and his mother sang at the Croatian National Theatre in Split.

From an early age, he played the drums, and at the age of 15, he professionally played in Split bands - Delfini, Mladi batali (today's Magazin), and the band More.

In the eighties, he went to America, where he stayed for two years and graduated from the Stanley Spector private jazz academy in New York. As one of the best students from Europe, he received a green card to stay in America in 1982.

Before leaving for America, he played percussion at the Croatian National Theatre for four years. In parallel, he recorded albums and played in the bands of Oliver Dragojević and Meri Cetinić, reports Hina. He also collaborated with the record label "Ariol" in Germany, from which he received an offer to work for them as a studio drummer.

Stavros is known, among others, for his hit songs "Umoran sam" (I'm Tired), "Dao bih sto Amerika" (I'd Give a Hundred Americas), "Kad se prijatelji rastaju" (When Friends Part).
