Montenegrin President Milatović praises Milošević's close associate Momir Bulatović

(Patria) - Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović yesterday commented on the anniversary of the death of former president Momir Bulatović, one of Slobodan Milošević's closest associates, as reported by Montenegrin media.

"On this day, four years ago, Momir Bulatović, the first president of Montenegro since the introduction of multi-party system, passed away. He will be remembered as a politician consistent with his views, who did not sell his love for Montenegro for personal and family benefits, but unobtrusively dedicated his life to Montenegro," Milatović wrote on Twitter.

Momir Bulatović is a former president of Montenegro (1990-1998) and president of the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1998-2000). Therefore, Bulatović was the president of Montenegro and a close ally of the notorious Milošević during the aggression against neighboring countries.

Many in Montenegro reacted to this statement by Jakov Milatović. Some parties assessed that Milatović "is starting to show his true colors" now that he has won the elections.

"Momir Bulatović will be remembered as a politician consistent with Slobodan Milošević's policy. His love, not for Montenegro, but for the Milošević family, he was willing to pay with the lives of Montenegrin youth, sacrificing them on the battlefields in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Kosovo, and in conflict with the civilized world, i.e., NATO," the Social Democrats announced.

He withdrew from politics in 2001 and from public life in 2008, after his son died at the age of 21 from leukemia. Momir Bulatović died on June 30, 2019, in Podgorica, at the age of 63.

In 2019, Bulatović was posthumously declared an honorary citizen of Trebinje in gratitude for his help to that city during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He was also a witness at the trials in The Hague and once stated that Milošević had saved him from The Hague.
