France 24, a French television channel broadcasting in English, has published an article on its pages about Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović posing with an Ustaše flag in Canada. They are actually reporting on an article from one of the most famous world agencies, AFP, which also did not miss the photograph of the Croatian president posing with a flag with the first white field, reports Patria.
Although it is true that the flag with the first white field was used on several occasions in Croatian history, in recent years it is exclusively used by sympathizers of the fascist Independent State of Croatia (NDH). This is how AFP journalists explain it in their article.
"Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has sparked debate after a picture from Canada was published showing her posing with a flag symbolizing the pro-Nazi regime," the article begins.
The article continues by stating that the Ustaše regime murdered hundreds of thousands of anti-fascists, Serbs, Jews, and Roma.
It further details the history of the flag with the first white field on its coat of arms. The article also includes a statement from her office, which states that they see nothing controversial in the photograph. They also emphasized that the president has repeatedly stated her opinion on the Ustaše regime.
The AFP article was also visible on the well-known Yahoo News service for world news, writes Index.
