Withdrawal of Kosovo Recognition: Seeking Something from Myanmar

Who are the countries that have withdrawn recognition of Kosovo? When the Republic of Palau announced that it would not recognize Kosovo until their final agreement, the president of this republic, Tomi Remengesau, visited Belgrade.     

This island nation in the Western Pacific gained independence in 1994 and has been in free association with the USA since then. It has 20,000 inhabitants and is one-third the size of the municipality of Konjic in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Saint Kitts and Nevis has withdrawn recognition. These are two small islands with 260,000 inhabitants, covering an area equivalent to one-sixth of the municipality of Zenica. Sao Tome and Principe has 187,000 inhabitants and 1001 square kilometers, which is 170 square kilometers less than the area of the municipality of Konjic or Zenica.

These are three small countries that have withdrawn recognition of Kosovo, and together they are about the size of one larger municipality in BiH.   

There are also those that are much larger in territory but have a small population. The Solomon Islands, which have also withdrawn recognition, have 470,000 inhabitants and 28,450 square kilometers.

Suriname is the only South American country that has withdrawn recognition. It has only 440,000 inhabitants but is the size of two Serbias.

Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli accused Serbia of offering its old surplus weapons to countries in exchange for withdrawing recognition.

Followed by withdrawals of recognition from African countries, which are in a difficult state of poverty. Guinea-Bissau has 1.8 million inhabitants and 36,000 square kilometers. And it has $1,900 per capita. Burundi has 27,500 square kilometers and eight million inhabitants. Burundi is one of the two poorest countries in the world.   Liberia has 111,000 square kilometers and 3.3 million inhabitants. And only $900 per capita.   Madagascar is a huge African island. It belongs to the group of the 20 poorest countries in the world with less than $250 per capita.

These are the ten countries that Serbia has tied to itself against the recognition of Kosovo. Egypt promised Minister Ivica Dačić that it would not establish relations with Kosovo.

Today, January 29, Dačić appeared in distant Myanmar, formerly Burma. And he met with Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi. She is the person from whom awards given by the civilized world are being withdrawn due to the horrific genocide against the Rohingya, about which she remains wisely silent. While the whole world increasingly condemns the regime in Myanmar, Minister Dačić goes there to prevent another recognition of Kosovo. Aung San Suu Kyi promised not to recognize Kosovo. Everything that Serbia has lost on the international stage so far, it has mostly lost due to crimes in the former Yugoslavia. Seeking something from the regime in Myanmar is truly inexplicable to common sense.  What is thought about these foreign policy actions in Serbia is best explained by a comment on FB: “Better, more, crazier.”
