Police in Croatia arrested a man who stole several kilometers of electric cable from the railway line

(Patria) - Vukovar-Srijem police arrested a 52-year-old man from Vukovar suspected of stealing several thousand meters of electric cable from the Vinkovci - Vukovar railway line, the electrification and modernization of which is underway.

Police caught the suspect early Saturday morning on the railway line near Bršadin, close to Vukovar, stealing electric cable.

After a criminal investigation, police determined that there is suspicion that from December 2022 to November 2023, he repeatedly stole several thousand meters of electric cable from the Vinkovci - Vukovar line, which he then sold to a scrap metal collection station.

The thefts damaged three companies carrying out modernization and electrification works on that section of the railway line, to the tune of several tens of thousands of euros.

The suspect was handed over yesterday to the detention supervisor of the Vukovar-Srijem Police Department, and a criminal complaint against him has been sent to the competent state attorney's office, the police stated.
