The informal association of journalists from the former Yugoslavia, Novinarska mreža, has requested that Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian authorities reveal who is behind the threats to journalist Ivica Đikić and that those responsible be punished.
The editor of the Zagreb weekly "Novosti", Ivica Đikić, received a written threat ahead of the promotion of publicist Slavko Goldštajn's new book "Jasenovac - tragedy, mythomania, truth", at which he will be one of the speakers on Friday.
The written threat ends with a Ustaše salute and was signed by anonymous members of HOS from Tomislavgrad, formerly Duvno, which is also Đikić's birthplace.
- We also warn that the safety of journalists is threatened throughout the region, and that they very often find themselves targeted by extreme nationalists, who prove to be the best guardians of anti-democratic authorities and who seem to be acting in coordination with them with the aim of creating an atmosphere of hatred and fear in which freedom of speech is threatened - it is stated in the letter of support.
Novinarska mreža also recalls the recent brutal attack on writer and journalist Ante Tomić and his friends in Split - in which one man had his forehead cut open, and Tomić narrowly avoided serious injury by sheer luck, writes NAP.
