Today, May 3rd, is World Press Freedom Day. According to a new report by Reporters Without Borders in 2016, Finland is in first place for media freedom, followed by the Netherlands and Norway. Denmark is in fourth place, followed by New Zealand, writes Patria.
It is interesting for us that there have been minor changes in the region regarding respect for media freedom. Serbia is now in 56th place, and last year it was ranked 59th in media freedom, which is still the best in the region. Croatia, like last year, is ranked in 63rd position. Bosnia and Herzegovina is also in the same 68th position. Montenegro remains in 106th place, and Macedonia is among the countries where media freedom is critically endangered and is in 118th place.
Of course, media freedom includes the authorities' attitude towards public discourse, the poor social situation of journalists, the closure of media outlets, the murder of journalists...
Nearly 800 journalists have been killed in the last ten years, writes Patria.
