(Patria) - Croatia stands in solidarity with Israel and condemns the brutal terrorist attack by Hamas, said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković today at the opening of the Zagreb IHRA Plenary.
Plenković emphasized that Croatia is committed to the fight against antisemitism and the distortion of truth about the Holocaust.
- The Croatian Government stands in solidarity with Israel, our close partner - said Plenković, and once again condemned the "brutal terrorist attack by Hamas".
He expressed the need for the release of all hostages and the alleviation of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
On March 1, Croatia assumed the one-year presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and after the plenary session in Dubrovnik in June, another one is being held in Zagreb on Thursday.
- The horrors of the past must not be repeated - said Plenković.
The future of Holocaust remembrance is at the center of Croatia's presidency, as there are not many survivors left from that dark period.
- As the last witnesses of the Holocaust leave us, the whole world must decide what the future of global Holocaust remembrance will look like.
We must ensure that their voices are heard by future generations - said Plenković, who was accompanied by Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović and Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek.
