Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković visited Mostar today, hosted by Dragan Čović, president of HDZ BiH.
Plenković stated that any potential change to the constitutional setup in BiH is a topic for parties and institutions in BiH, writes Patria.
- Regarding the dialogue conducted by legitimate political representatives in BiH, it is up to them to find the best solutions for moving forward. Croatia's positions on all issues in BiH have been quite clear, including the recent ones concerning the referendum in Republika Srpska – said Plenković, who also held a meeting today with representatives of the Croatian National Assembly.
Interestingly, before arriving in BiH, Plenković gave a completely different statement to Večernji list regarding amendments to the Election Law of BiH.
- Amending the Election Law is crucial precisely to ensure the legitimate representation of Croats in BiH, given that in the past we have truly witnessed abuses of the existing Election Law, and unfortunately, it has happened that the election of a Croatian representative was decided by votes or parties of other nations. Legitimate representation of Croats means that Croatian voters decide on Croatian representatives.
Plenković emphasized today that Croatia supports a whole BiH and is against all possible tendencies that would lead to its destabilization and, ultimately, a form of disintegration.
Plenković took the opportunity, while supporting BiH's European path, to also emphasize that Croatia will provide support for various projects for the Croatian people in BiH.
- I am determined to help in the most constructive way possible for both BiH's cohesion and its European path, and to guarantee the equality of Croats in BiH – he said.
Interestingly, Dragan Čović said today that “representatives of Croatian politics in BiH, which they lead through HDZ, are the vanguards of the European path, and there are no dilemmas about that.”
Plenković arrived in Mostar last night where he met with Bishop Ratko Perić of Mostar, and this morning he spoke with representatives of the University of Mostar, the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, and the Provincial of the Franciscan Monastery of St. Peter and Paul, fra Miljenko Šteko. He visited the construction site of the Home for Poor Students of the Franciscan Monastery of St. Peter and Paul and the Croatian National Theatre, and the Central Office of HDZ BiH.
